ATLANTA – Georgia lawmakers are about to debate an emotional issue, gun control. A proposed bill would expand where gun owners can bring their guns. Under the House Bill 615, those with a gun permit could carry on public colleges and universities.
“Georgia’s laws are very restrictive when compared to the rest of the nation. The proposed bill will bring the state up to speed,” said State Representative Tim Bearden, (R) Ga. House District 68. “They should not become criminals because two minutes they were not on college property and then they drive onto college property.”
CBS Atlanta asked if there are concerns about a gun incident occurring if students are drinking or horsing around. Bearden said it’s about protecting Second Amendment rights. You have to be 21 years old to have a gun permit.
“The majority of the people, well those individuals, who care about their Second Amendment rights have gone through the process. They respect that permit,” said Bearden.
Bearden also said recently during the biggest period of firearms buying there was also the greatest reduction in crime in 40 years.</em>
There you go. Discussion over. The area around Georgia Tech in downtown Atlanta has seen a sharp rise in violent crime and robberies in the last few years, largely due to the well-publicized disarmament policies enacted in the area. Criminals go to the areas they now they don’t risk capture or confrontation, and these politically correct nanny zones are perfect. Give the students and residents in the area the option to protect themselves, since it’s not the cops job to do so. Anything else is inhumane.
