Grace Jones

Hurricane

PIAS

It’s her first American release in 22 years (Europe got it in 2009), and Grace Jones on Hurricane instantly takes you back to her glory days of Warm Leatherette or Slave To The Rhythm. Opening with “This Is” (“This is my voice/ My weapon of choice”), you can tell she hasn’t slowed down a step in 20 years. Her music is still a heady mix of dance floor funk, loping reggae beats, and Krautrock, all with her icy vocals making it 3 AM instantly. From “Corporate Cannibal” to “Devil in My Life,” Jones, as always, places her venom well, full of menace and intrigue. A second disc of dub versions of the album is included, and it too is pure soundtastic bliss. Grace Jones is back, bitches!
