Scenic Route to Alaska
Warrington
Summer has arrived and we are all looking for ways to cool down, and what better than a scenic vacation to the Land of the Midnight Sun? This Alberta based trio not only has a cool name but their infectious energy fills this collection with urgent vocals, solid guitar work, and one damn cool bass player (Murray Wood). With a small line up, you have to let the drummer (Shea Connor) sing occasionally, but it’s the lead guy (Trevor Mann) that grabbed my ear. He’s out front on “Paris,” the heavy rotation track on this collection and I can’t quite get the lyric, but I know he’s taking us all somewhere special.
Things slow down occasionally; “If I Were a Ghost” opens with a delicate instrumental and a song that contemplate death and the hereafter and asks the big question: “Will love keep us alive even in death?” We continue on in these two veins, alternating between dark despair and gloom and upbeat hopeful love songs. It’s a long, long drive to Alaska unless you start there, and here’s a band to keep in the player for those endless miles on the Alcan Highway.
