Angelina Sings!

Red Venue

The 2016 Orlando International Fringe Festival

Orlando, FL</strong>

Drunks always make the best karaoke singers, and nuns always make the best lounge pianists. Or so it seems in New Jersey; Angela (Carro) can belt with the best of them in this town yet she chooses to use an over amped microphone. Her repertory covers Billy Joel to Burt Bacharach, and her pianist Sister Rosemary (Branch) adds smoother tunes like Leon Russel’s “This Masquerade.” Sister R also enforces the “Swear Jar;” it’s 25 cents for the single naughty words up to and including the Big F; 50 cents covers the double sin of “Jesus Christ.” She never got around to quote adding an “H”. Besides the Good Sister’s accompaniment, Angelina keeps a kazoo in her boobs for that little extra push up to 11. There’s money and who knows what else in there; it’s almost like she has a Jersey Shore Tardis in her bra.

Carro’s voice is solid and finely tuned to her selections; she has no need for an audio boost in this tight space. Branch looks hot in the habit, but keeps things musically cool and can and intimidate without calling in the Almighty. This show is in the Red Venue where they pack the seats tight; go alone or with a thin date and see this funny and vulnerable toast to sobriety.
