HARVEST

Mixto Records

Balthvs are a prolific rock band from Bogota, Columbia. In the brief time they have been together, they have released 25 singles, and Harvest will be their fourth full-length album. The trio are known for their exotic blending of the psychedelic sounds of cumbia, surf rock, funk and Turkish musical influences.

On their previous albums, Balthazar Aguirre was the main force behind writing, arranging, and producing their albums. For Harvest, the band chose to shake up their formula. They left their home base in Bogota for the tropical setting of La Mesa, where they set up shop in a summer house and let the tropical atmosphere seep into their music. For Harvest, all three members, Aguirre, Johanna Mercuriana, and Santiago Lizcano, contributed equally to the creation of every song.

The tropical vibe of La Mesa is felt in the warm, sensuous grooves of Harvest. The songs are mainly trippy instrumentals, with bubbling rhythms underpinning psychedelic guitar excursions. Aguirre’s guitar work is crisp and clean, bringing to mind players as diverse as Dick Dale and Michael Karoli (Can). Johanna provides haunting vocals on “Like Coconut Water.”
