Let me put it this way: if you’re a fan of MOD tracks and computer game “house” music, this compilation is a must-have. I, as many people know, am a huge fan of house music, even though I’m certainly not what you’d call a “raver” by any means. I simply like it as a background soundtrack while I’m working on something requiring intense concentration. For some reason, these repetitive beats mixed with lush, grooving synthesizers and samples (it’s not hardcore techno) causes my mind to focus intensely on whatever task is at hand.

Please don’t think I’m insulting DJ Popeye, who mixed all this stuff (14 tracks) when I liken Tranzworld to video game music or MODs played on a Sound Tracker. Quite the contrary; consider how focused (hypnotized, really) the video addicts are when they’re enjoying a long run on a single quarter. Or, for that matter, this is more great music to enjoy in a dark room lit by the more-than-occasional flashing lights, to which all the amped babes shake and squirm…

For you house aficionados, the disc features the talents of folks like DJ C.A., DJ George Dee and Dan Racoon, DJ Mickey, DJ Teistro, Jet Set & Plastic Angel, Gollum & Hunter, B-Voice, Computer Controlled, and P-Casso. Webster Hall Records, 125 East Eleventh Street, New York, NY 10003
