The Boom/The Sorts

Split

Big Top

This split 7” between two modern jazzed-up groove bands is a bit incestuous, and it’s all the better for it: The Sorts’ Joshua LaRue (ex-Rain Like the Sound of Trains) plays guitar and synthesizer on his band’s side and trombone on the Boom’s; the Boom’s Fred Erskine (June of ‘44/ ex-Hoover and Crownhate Ruin) plays guitar on his band’s side and trumpet on the Sorts’; and the Boom’s Carlo Cennamo plays alto sax on both bands’ respective sides. A bit confusing? – not really. A bit refreshing? – really.
