The Dishes

The Dishes

No. 89

I’ve never met them, but I would love to hang out with the Dishes! They are hypercool! Not only do they play some kickin’ punk tunes, but they have a name that you could read at least three different meanings into, and they managed to score an album cover drawn by the Queen of Cool, Jessica Abel, who created Artbabe . The Dishes belt out some nicely edgy songs, yet manage to steer clear of easy pigeon-holing. They aren’t particularly angry or political, nor are they cutesy. There doesn’t seem to be an agenda with this band, they just rock. Although I’m totally down with a lot of the angry women, it is not a prerequisite to form a band. These girls have earned their chops and are working off more than raw energy and youthful indignation. To round out their coolness, they even cover the Urinals’ “I’m a Bug.” Just a side note to the Dishes – anytime, anyplace, and I’m buying the drinks.
