Orphan Train

Surprise Truck Entertainment

Orphan Train is a new project from Aram Arslanian, who has served as the guitarist for Lisa Marie Presley and has toured with Sandra Bernhart. Arslanian takes the lead on this, his third album and first under the Orphan Train moniker. Orphan Train is the kind of album you listen to while cleaning the house or just kicking back with a few friends. The vocals are reminiscent of Gram Parsons with a hint of David Gray, while the alt-country feel of the music is a lot like the Jayhawks or Kathleen Edwards.

Arslanian shows his talent here by playing every instrument except the bass and drums. His unassuming laid-back tone makes for an easy way to relax. Pop in Orphan Train and feel the stress just disappear. There, I just saved you a trip to the massage parlor. Lyrically, the album doesn’t have much going for it, which makes it even better to relax to. You don’t have to pay attention to what’s going on. Most of the songs are light and airy. “Bundleful” sounds like something James Taylor would do, while “Shine On” sounds like an addendum to David Gray’s “Babylon.”

Orphan Train is the perfect album for a Sunday afternoon spent on a porch swing sipping lemonade.
