Continental Drifters

Vermillion

Razor and Tie

This is the first nationally distributed recording by this very talented collection of Louisiana-based musicians. The group name may be familiar to some, as will most of the names of the individual players.

This is not the same group as the earlier Continental Drifters, who later morphed into regional cult-favorites the Subdudes. The group name was willed to these musicians by the earlier Continental Drifters, and they do share the flavor. This group is comprised of singers-songwriters Susan Cowsill (of the Cowsills and Pyscho Sisters), Vicki Peterson (of the Bangles and Pyscho Sisters), and Peter Holsapple (of the dB’s), as well as Robert Mache (of the Steve Wynn Band), ex-Bluerunner Russ Broussard, and Mark Walton. Cowsill, Holsapple, and Peterson, either individually or in various collaborations with the other two, penned all but one of these well-crafted songs. Mache weighs in with the other. These folks have lived a sort of communal lifestyle for awhile, and it’s given them a tightness and a “finish each others’ sentence”- type interplay that is normally reserved for family bands. This is most definitely a band with a bright future. One of the best and more literate bands working these days.
