You Can Count On Me
Music from the Motion Picture
ESquared / Artemis
Not having seen the motion picture, I cannot offer an opinion as to how well this soundtrack fits with the storyline, but it is a good collection of songs. Steve Earle personally chose the songs for this compilation from the vaults of ESquared, the label owned by Earle and his partner Jack Emerson. Earle’s next-to-last release, The Mountain (featuring the Del McCoury Band), is well represented here, with five prime cuts from that release, including “Texas Eagle,” “Harlan Man,” “The Mountain,” “I’m Still in Love With You (with Iris Dement),” and “Pilgrim,” the all-star tribute to the late Roy Huskey, Jr. The rest of this release is comprised of cuts by other past and current ESquared artists. The now-defunct V-Roys have three cuts, including “Straight Highway,” “Strange,” and “Amy 88.” The remaining slots are filled by a single offering each from Marah, Bap Kennedy, Cheri Knight, and Kenny Roby’s old band, 6-String Drag.
