Mack 10

Bang Or Ball

Cash Money / Universal

With the hyper-commodification (or codification) of rap, there are some artists you know what you’re going to get before you even rip the plastic off the CD case. This is especially true with an artist like Mack 10, who’s been flirting with stardom for years now but has been unable to crack the glass of Mediocrity’s ceiling. In his latest effort to become ghetto fabulous, the West Coast rapper has headed South. Following Snoop’s steps to NOLA (which the Dogg did after his brief break-up with Dre to lie with the P Master), Mack joins ranks with the Hot Boys of Cash Money fame. So, we have two very cliched, very tired forms working here: the West Coast “gangsta” bravado (anybody ever hear of bitches and hos?) and that N’awlins bounce. It doesn’t take Nostradamus to predict what Bang Or Ball would sound like. And, if it’s a sound you like, then definitely check this out. But, you know, we’ve all got The Chronic, so why bother?
