Transmatic is a four piece alternaband, that plays grunge type music in the vein of Dishwalla (that band that sang “tell me all your thoughts on God, cause I’d really like to meet her“). This is pure wussy music, through and through.

It’s curious to me that bands still bother to play this kind of music in 2002. This entire genre, the clean verse/distorted chorus, with melodic singing atop the mess, was pretty much tapped dry back in the early 1990s. Enough babbling!

These guys sound like Dishwalla crossed with Hootie & the Blowfish (I kid you not!), with the lead singer from Crash Test Dummies (remember “Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmmm”?). I swear to you, this band sounds JUST like that, and I’d wager the farm on other people seeing that as well! The guitars are smooth, sometimes psuedo eerie, the drums are at the “perfect” level, according to Immortal record execs, and the songs are very predictable.

Transmatic will probably have a radio hit from this record, for the songs here are criminally sticky and sweet, and the “safety quotient” of this band is very high, making the listening to of this band “OK” for a slew of people. The best part about this record is the fact that it even exists in 2002! Someone please call Transmatic and tell them that Chris Cornell wants to sing back up on their next record!
