Coheed And Cambria
The Second Stage Turbine Blade
Equal Vision
I don’t like to use the word “genius” freely, but I feel it is the only way to describe Coheed And Cambria’s debut album The Second Stage Turbine Blade. Being a “concept band” is dangerous territory, but Coheed And Cambria have pulled it off with sheer brilliance. Coheed And Cambria have created a science fiction love story packed with intensity, emotion, and fear displayed through eerie and haunting lyrics. Take the track “Hearshot Kid Disaster,” for example: “Still searching for your faith in the arm that killed the president relapse waiting here for/Still searching for your face in the crowd that buried New Mexico I’ll be waiting here for…” According to the band, each album will be another chapter of the story. Claudio Sanchez, the voice behind Coheed And Cambria, is rumored to be in the process of writing a novel/comic book based on the album. As of yet, no definite plans for release have been made. Coheed And Cambria’s music, even without the chilling lyrics, speaks on its own. Although the band is most frequently tagged as being “hardcore” or “screamo,” they have an originality that many bands seem to be lacking. Every album I have heard since listening to The Second Stage Turbine Blade only pales in comparison and I can bet the same thing will happen to you. At the risk of sounding like a cheesy commercial, The Second Stage Turbine Blade is the ideal gift for anyone on your list this holiday season, including yourself!
