Sprawl

Sarah Veladora

self-released

Second full-length release from this talented Canadian four-piece, but Sprawl still fail to live up to their instrumental capabilities and broad musical outlook. Reminiscent of bands as diverse as Suede and Dandy Warhols – both cited by the band themselves – as well as latter-day Cheap Trick and a very poppy Smashing Pumpkins, Sprawl reach far and wide, but too often lack the songs to keep things interesting.

There are a few standout tracks on here – try the fine “Get Off” and a sweet “Faded” – but Sprawl don’t quite succeed in establishing a voice of their own in all this.
