Head Held High
There are few words that describe an album like Nyia’s Head Held High that aren’t overused and clichéd, such as “aggressive,” “brutal,” “crushing” and “bowel-shattering.” I’m sorry folks, but there’s just no other way to say it: Head Held High did, in fact, shatter my bowels into a million little pieces.
That said, you should be aware that Nyia’s lead guitarist is formerly of the rich and famous Vader, and that former Prophecy vocalist Michal Puwluc does the vocals here. If you’ve ever heard that guy, you know he means business. His growl is an intimidating one, replete with scratchiness and an overabundance of gurgling and anger. The drumming on this album is ridiculous; it’s so fast that the snare drum often sounds like one continuous note. The blast beats are too often and too fast (if that’s possible), making someone who is a very skilled drummer come off sound sloppy and amateurish… but it works with Nyia!
If you like your death metal incredibly fast, destructive, violent and evil, Nyia is definitely something for you to check out!
