The Sound of the Crowd

The smartest TV series creator of all time?

I thought American Beauty was overrated, and I’ve never watched Six Feet Under. But it’s quite possible Alan Ball (the writer and/or creator of both) is the smartest TV series creator in history.

Why? Because after that show’s forthcoming fifth season, he’s announced, the show will end. As you know, a pet peeve of this blog is TV shows that stay on the air past their prime, so it’s nice to see someone leaving the dance early.

Of course, the fact that critical reaction to last season wasn’t so good, as I recall, may have had something to do with it.

PS: If you scroll down the linked item above, you’ll also see that Veronica Mars has been picked up for a full season. Yay. Maybe now certain folk who read this blog (but shall otherwise remain nameless) will have a chance to watch a whole show or two before getting all judgmental about it.
