David O. Russell is the filmmaker who made ‘Spanking the Monkey’ and ‘Flirting With Disaster’, among others. He also made a short documentary called ‘Soldiers Pay,’ intended to go on a new DVD release of his film ‘Three Kings’.
That film (which I have not seen) is set during the first Iraq war. The documentary interviews veterans and others about both Iraq conflicts. Warner Brothers refused to include it on the DVD, on grounds that it was “too political.”
So, instead, it just premiered on the Independent Film Channel. I recommend it (as I do the first two films named above, which I have seen).
See this one if you can, but fair warning: It’ll make you sick. No matter where you stand on the Iraq war, if you are honest…it’ll make you sick.
