Collective Soul’s Ed Roland knows a good band when he hears one, and Atlanta’s Five Star Iris is evidence of that. Their self-titled debut EP confirms that Roland has championed a band with the talent and potential necessary to take their music to the next level.

Indeed, after hearing songs as good as “Only Angel in LA” and “Is There Something I Can Do,” it’s amazing no A&R has signed the band. Five Star Iris oozes class and quality. Arena rocker “Day In The Sun” could easily be mistaken for one of Bono’s compositions. It’s that good! Vocalist Alan Schaefer has a terrific voice and the band has such a commercial songwriting sensibility that a full-length album from Five Star Iris (due sometime in 2005) is eagerly anticipated.
