Capturing the soul and beer-swilling of a southern summer bbq, West Virginia’s American Minor have blended the swagger and blues-obsessed soul of the stadium rock bands of the ’70s with the grit of a seedy garage band. On their debut self-titled release, produced by former Blind Melon members Brad Smith and Christopher Thorn, they have pressed a CD that could hold its own against Americana blues rock favorites The Black Crowes.
American Minor are part of the generation that grew up not only listening to the alternative rock of the ’90s (Pixies, Nirvana, Pavement), but also paid attention to their parents’ record collection (Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, Grand Funk Railroad). The combined creation has one foot in nostalgia and the other planted in the fresh soil of something new.
Highlights include: “Walk On,” “Cheaters and Non-Believers” and “Change.”
