Geffen

Northern Scottish city Aberdeen isn’t well known for anything much but as a center for the North Sea oil industry, but the six lads who make up Driveblind aim to change all that with their eponymous debut CD.

The band was quickly snapped up by Ron Fair’s Geffen Records after a showcase in L.A., and the blues-rock stomp of furious opener “Silhoutte” shows exactly why – the strength of lead singer Terry McDermott’s incredible Midge Ure-esque vocals, an instant, unforgettable melody and a contemporary sound with the classic hallmarks of The Who and The Band.

The typically up-tempo tracks “Tell Me” and “The Fool Rides Again” showcase Driveblind’s old-school influences, while the delicate “Light Sleeper” and the folky, acoustic-based “Leave Home” demonstrate a more restrained side to the band.

The band freely admit they are not reinventing the wheel with this album, but with songs as good as these, Driveblind prove that quality never goes out of fashion.
