Kiss Kiss Kill Kill

Hellcat

Horrorpops’ rhythm guitarist Geoff Kresge has gone back to his old band, Tiger Army, and for their third release they are a trio once more. Thankfully the music sounds the same: psychobilly/surf/ska/punk pop with vocalist/upright bassist Patricia Day coming off like Siouxsie Sioux meets Bettie Page.

While the initial thrill of this Los Angeles-by-way-of-Denmark band’s sound may have worn a little thin, they still occupy their own special niche within the over-saturated rockabilly scene. No one sounds like them, and that’s one of the biggest compliments I could offer anyone! Originality will always earn brownie points even if I don’t find myself jamming out to this album like I did to Hell Yeah or Bring It On!. Rest assured, though this album may not come across as their best, Horrorpops are still able to write great pop songs that just happen to be soaked in the spirit of Halloween and hot rods.

The top songs on this outing fall one right after the other on this release: the ska-heavy “Missfit”, the psychobilly stomp “Boot to Boot”, and “Disco”–a hilarious rip on fans who can’t let go of the 80’s.
