After protest, McCain fund-raiser out

A politically active Arab American from Dearborn was removed from the Michigan finance committee of John McCain’s presidential campaign last week after an Oakland County blogger complained to the campaign about his criminal record and alleged ties to Lebanese-based terrorists.

Jawad was convicted of misusing insurance funds in 1997 and sentenced to probation. But Schlussel was more critical of him in a posting on her blog for what she says are alleged ties to Hizballah, the Lebanese organization considered by the U.S. government to be a terrorist group.</em>
