The Girl Who Fell Up The Chimney

The Girl Who Fell Up The Chimney

By Mark Routhier

Concept and Puppets by Jeff Ferree

Orlando International Fringe Theatre Festival, Jamie Mykins Theatre </strong>

Maybe you still have a chimney, a real chimney, designed to vent hot flue gasses out of your house so you don’t die from carbon monoxide on that one cold winter day in Orlando. Or maybe you have a decorative chimney on your fake Tudor McMansion, but in each of those chimneys there are spirits, and they are waiting. And waiting. And waiting for … Godot? Slide your head into this odd theatre space and meet Rungo and Tonk. Tonk wonders why they are waiting, and Rongo replies “Because” and then a small human girl intrudes, and the placid life of the chimney sprits is disturbed. Rongo and Tonk are pointy cones of color with google eyes and useless arms, they are the creation of puppeteer and all around handy man Jeff Ferree, and this quickly little show is a gem of this year’s fringe. Look for it under the Studio C sign in the Shakespeare Theater, its right next to the volunteer center. Bring you kids, they can pull ropes and move the puppets themselves. So far there are no waiting lines, and the show is open whenever the building is open.

This production is part of the 2014 Orlando International Fringe Theatre Festival. Information on tickets and show times may be found at http://OrlandoFringe.org/
