Electric Jaguar Baby are two guys from Paris with a fetish for minimalist garage rock and distortion pedals. Their sound conjures images of ’70s Blue Oyster Cult and ZZ Top jamming with the Black Keys and the White Stripes. This is a band that is all about the riff. The distorted guitar dominates everything, followed by drums and vocals wallowing low in the mix. I can’t tell what they’re singing about most of the time, but with song titles like, “Cannibal Animal,” “Shiver River,” and “Magick Queen,” I’d guess there’s some Cramps and Misfits in their DNA too. Over the course of 13 songs, the heavy fuzz gets to sounding the same, but the duo make the most of their self-imposed limitations and would probably be fun live.
