I have to admit, I never really listened to Neu!, but everyone I come in contact with seems to cite them as an influence. When this compilation came in, I figured it was finally time to give it a whirl, and with names like Download, Dead Voices on Air, Autechre, System 7, and James Plotkin, I couldn’t refuse. The liner notes explain that only three albums were released, and now I feel cheated. Most of the tracks are covers, remixes, or inspired by Neu! and every one is brilliant. From the haunting Dead Voices on Air track to the “minimal” nature of Autechre to the bouncy System 7 track. The sheer number of musicians working in the electronica genre that cite Neu! warrants every raver to head out and pay a little bit of their on homage to the inspiration.
