The Sights

If That’s What You Want

Fall Of Rome

Hmmm. Garage rock, a la the ‘60’s, crossed with a bit of today’s indie sassiness; imagine crossing The Beach Boys, with equal parts of Jon Spencer and Canada’s Sloan… you’d have a pretty good idea of what this sounds like.

I think all of the Toledo, OH / Detroit, MI area is obsessed with hipster garage rock; I used to live over there, and it’s really quite sickening. The Sights have, sadly, gotten sucked into this camp, but they don’t really sound as wishy washy as some of the areas other cornball acts (see Moods For Moderns). If That’s What You Want is very predictable, with all four songs teetering on early Rolling Stones plagarism.

The cool thing about this though is that it comes on two colored seven-inches, one red and the other a yellowish / white-ish color. The cover artwork totally sucks! I hate that ‘60’s retro crap! Anyway, this is surprisingly well done garage stuff, considering I hate almost all music from this genre. Worth a listen. 6 out of 10.
