Saturday Looks Good to Me

This Time Every Year 7”

Sonic Syrup

I saw Saturday Looks Good to Me in Lansing, MI not too long before Christmas. With only four members on hand they didn’t quite live up to my Motown orchestral expectations, but I was also partially bummed because they didn’t play any Christmas songs. I can’t imagine why not, since the title track on the This Time Every Year 7” has everything you could possibly want from a holiday tune: Spector-ian exuberance, chiming pianos, jingle bells and Fred Thomas’s seasonal melancholy. On the flipside, the classic “Blue Christmas” is treated with proper torch song reverence. The time to fully enjoy this 7” may have passed for the time being, but don’t let that stop you from picking it up now, stuffing it in your stocking and surprising yourself next December. Santa would want it that way.
