2004 Warped Tour Compilation

2004 Warped Tour Compilation

Various Artists

Side One Dummy

Another year, another edition of Vans’ Warped Tour. Another Vans’ Warped Tour, another reason to put out a 2-disc compilation. 2004’s entry isn’t anything to be particularly displeased about. The majority of the acts showcased on this set tend to fall into the category of punk-tinged pop rock, with an act or two showing tendencies towards emo (Piebald), hardcore (From Autumn To Ashes), metal (Stutterfly) and even rap (Chronic Future). In short, there’s a little bit of something for everyone, as long as you’re a punk fan and don’t mind having every third track sound more than a little like Blink-182, err, I mean, Simple Plan.

Highlights are provided courtesy of established bands like Thursday, A New Found Glory, Flogging Molly and Taking Back Sunday. But there are also a good number of lesser-known acts contributing some great stuff, such as Fear Before the March of Flames, Letter Kills and From First To Last. It’s these latter bands that really make the compilation worth buying, as you’re more likely not to have heard them elsewhere. You just might find something you dig.

Although it’s certainly not the most revolutionary selection of tracks I’ve heard, the 2004 Warped Tour Compilation is host to a number of good up-and-coming bands. And with over 50 songs for under ten bucks, you can’t beat the price. So if you’ve got a few spare bucks left after buying your new pair of skate shoes, it’s most likely worth the investment.
