Truth to Power

Kerry babbles

My goodness, what an exciting day in political news yesterday. Why, you’d think there was an election coming up or something.

First, good old John Kerry again takes a valid point and mangles it on the telling. What he said was this:

“You know, education, if you make the most of it, you study hard, you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you don’t, you get stuck in Iraq.”

Now, his staffers are saying that his text read differently, that the line was supposed to be a joke on Bush, but whatever. But what he ended up saying is more truthful, because it sounds like he was referring to what is known as a “poverty draft”, where the military aims its recruitment efforts at kids who haven’t got the resources to attend school (hand in hand with our government cutting funds for college), lowers its admission requirements for new recruits, and generally does whatever it can to get warm bodies to funnel into King George’s optional wars.

Little Georgie wasted no time of course in spouting off about it at another campaign stop in Georgia (leave my state, please!), calling on Kerry to apologize to the troops. Perhaps he should be apologizing himself, for items such as these:

Halliburton allowed our troops in Iraq to shower, bathe, and sometimes brush their teeth with water that tested positive for e. coli and coliform bacteria.

Halliburton sent unarmed truck drivers into a known combat zone without warning them of the danger, resulting in the deaths of six truck drivers and two soldiers. Halliburton then offered to nominate the surviving truck drivers for a Defense Department medal – provided they sign a medical records release that doubled as a waiver of any right to seek legal recourse against the company.

Of the mere 5% of servicemembers who answered positively to the PTSD screening questions, 78% were not referred for further mental health evaluation.

Once King George apologizes to the troops for treating them like shit, sending them into harms way with no clear agenda, exit plan, or proper equipment, while his partner in crimes old company makes millions defrauding the American taxpayer while actively harming our troops, then I’m sure Kerry will “apologize” for speaking his mind.
