I Am Spoonbender

Gold Standard Labs

This is what happens when your analog synths get all mopey and brooding. Three cuts of Stereolab gone bad, twisted pop played by disembodied robotics and telephone operators. This sort of stuff could easy fall into the “too hip to live” category if it wasn’t so damn well done – bouncy yet dark. (That sounds like a demented version of a beer ad). The opener “I Went and Had My Knives Sharpened” is menace and obsession lurking under a strident, flexing dance hit, and it just gets better from there. Not everyone’s cup of ouzo, but if you still regularly spin Kraftwerk, Devo or The Residents, add a little I Am Spoonbender to your day.
